Not every machine in this industry uses hydraulics, and equipment architectures vary. Identify the particular hydraulic function before comparing pump configurations.
What the hydraulic system does
A pump feeds the hydraulic circuit that powers the actuator. The workpiece, tooling and machine structure determine the force and motion requirements; the pump alone does not determine the accuracy of the process.

What matters when selecting a pump?

Workholding or machining power?
Identify the hydraulic function. A machine’s cutting spindle may use a different drive; its power rating is not the pump requirement.
How often does the circuit operate?
Record clamp/release frequency and holding time, as well as whether several actuators work at once.
What must fit the existing power unit?
Provide mounting, shaft, port and installation-space details. Include noise and oil-temperature observations for an existing unit.
- Distinguish movement demand from pressure-holding demand.
- State the available installation space and mounting details.
- Provide operating hours and any machine-specific noise requirements.
Use the equipment specification to establish the operating envelope. Then review the exact pump model, mounting, shaft, rotation and ports. Ask for clarification where the model code or application requirements are incomplete.
From the application to a pump specification
Use flow, pressure, speed and installation requirements to shortlist a product. An industry name alone is not a selection rule.
Prepare a useful technical enquiry
Include the hydraulic schematic if available, actuator requirements and existing pump code. For a new installation, ask the machine designer to confirm the required operating points.
Include the required quantity, destination and delivery expectations. For a replacement, add the old pump’s nameplate and photographs of the installation.
