Identify a pump before ordering a replacement
A practical checklist for the nameplate, shaft, flange, ports and operating conditions that define a replacement enquiry.
Read guide ›Pump selectionPrepare a hydraulic pump specification
Turn a machine requirement into a useful purchasing brief, from operating points to installation and documentation.
Read guide ›FundamentalsHow does a hydraulic pump work?
Follow the energy path from the drive motor to the machine’s movement, and understand why flow and pressure are different.
Read guide ›Pump selectionVane, gear and piston pumps: what is different?
Understand the three common pumping mechanisms before comparing individual series and specifications.
Read guide ›CalculationsDisplacement, speed and flow explained
Calculate theoretical flow, understand the units and see why a catalog displacement is not a guaranteed measured output.
Read guide ›Pump selectionSingle, double and triple pumps
Learn how multiple pumping sections affect the model information and specifications you need to supply.
Read guide ›MaintenanceNoise, heat or low flow: what information should you collect?
Prepare a useful service enquiry without assuming that every hydraulic-system problem is caused by the pump.
Read guide ›Technical documentsHow to read a pump datasheet
Turn a technical PDF into a practical purchasing checklist: model code, operating limits and installation dimensions.
Read guide ›Common hydraulic terms
- Displacement
- Nominal fluid volume moved by the pump per shaft revolution, usually expressed in cm³/rev.
- Flow rate
- Fluid volume per unit of time, commonly expressed in L/min.
- Pressure
- Force per unit area. Common hydraulic units include bar and MPa.
- Volumetric efficiency
- Delivered flow divided by theoretical flow at a stated operating condition.
- Duty cycle
- The sequence of operating conditions and the time spent in each stage.
- Mounting interface
- The physical connection between pump and equipment, including flange, pilot and shaft details.
